In regards to PAWING PROBLEMS

When I saw
PAWING PROBLEMS
I immediately read the response as I am having the same problem. I have a 7 month old Arabian who paws while eating his grain. I haven't trained him to tie as of yet so I am not sure if he paws while doing that but would I correct pawing while eating his grain in the same manner?

Hi Sandy,

Horses paw for a number reasons. In this case, as it is a foal and an Arabian to boot, it could be a high strung nature and a bit of anxiousness (excited) about receiving the food. Is the mare prone to pawing as well? This behavior can be quickly learned from another horse. To attempt to correct this, try removing the food if he paws and replacing it the instant stops. There is timing involved in this proceedure and if your timing is off you will frustrate the foal and make the situation worse.

Good luck and let me knwo how it all goes.

Sincerely yours, Franklin
