I recently bought a 12 year old brood mare and her filly (she is now 9 months old)....I keep them apart when I put them outside because if I don't and I take the filly out to lead train her, the mare bolts through the fence to get to her baby (I weaned ...

...I have 3 horses, 1 mare, gelding and a 6 month old filly. We used the total separation method to wean the two at this time and the filly is staying with the gelding with no problem. I was wondering about how long do we need to keep the mare and the filly apart? ....

6Skittish Colt
..I own a 9-month-old colt. He is very skittish in that in order to catch him, I must keep a halter and a 20 foot lead rope attached to the halter 24/7 which I know is an unsafe practice, but otherwise I'd spend hours trying to catch him. ...

7What can I do to assure her safety?
..we came upon a filly that was being abused by his owner. ... The former owner would latterly wrestle the 5 month old to the ground, causing cuts and bruises trying to halter her. So needless to say now she is terrified of a halter, or any one approaching her...

8Behavior changed dramatically
...she'd buck (very small - hardly worth doing) she's only do it when I'd ask her to move into the canter, she'd also (whilst cantering) twist around my left leg, basically run bent like a banana. Both being very uncomfortable for me - and quite alarming....

9Biting filly, new owners
...we have been feeding her out of our hands. I have just read that this is a big NO NO. Well yesterday she acted a little different, I couldn't put my hands on it. One of my friends was with us, and Sassy Jo (horse) reached accross the fence and bit her shirt. YES, she bit it, not a nip. My friend had on ALOT of perfume, and a very bright colored shirt, had reds, yellows, blues in it, was a tie died shirt. My first question is can the perfume and bright colors ...

At what age do you recommend training a horse to ride? I have heard from age 2 to age 5. Quite a difference!

13Geldings responding to mares
Could you tell me what 'gelding' a horse exactly does to him? Here is a really weird question.... Can a gelding be affected or can he sense when a woman is on PMS?

14Stud colt questions!

15Halter Problems
...She was doing great, I got the halter on her after a few days. You could walk into her stall and she would come right to you and I could place the halter on without any problem. She was leading ok. ...Now I walk into the stall with a halter or lead rope and she turns tail and goes to the opposite side. ..Any advise on what I have done wrong?..
