1Trailering a Herdbound Horse
My mare is fine when being trailered with other horses, but for the whole five years I've owned her, she's been a terror whenever I've had to haul her alone in the trailer. Is there any technique for getting her comfortable riding solo in the trailer?

6Rearing and Herd bound

7Older rental horse rescued.

9Retired Harness Racer
... I adopted a 9 year old gelding who is a retired Standardbred. He was underweight and had a few minor medical problems that we have corrected. He started off as being inpatient when I mounted and he doesn't like to stand very long. He has become herd bound and somewhat barn sour....

10Two year old biting gelding
The other day my 15-year-old daughter was brushing him and he turned his head and tried to bite her on the shoulder...Both of my daughters allowed him to lick their hands and fed him snacks from their hands... until I did a little research and now know better. Could this have caused him to start biting?

11Spooky Herd Bound Horse
....Last year I noticed that she started to be "spooky" when we rode. I would try to ride in the woods or in the tree nursery by the property that she is boarded on. ....(also she is herd bound)... I cannot get her more than three feet down the road to get to the trail. I tried today and she would not go. I tried to let her go at her own pace....

12Won't stay in his stall
....He is not ill mannered by any means. Once I open the stall door to let him out or take him out with the halter and lead rope to groom him, he will not run over me or anything. He just does not want to stay in his stall. Not even if it is freezing outside. We tried to give him hay to keep him content, but that does not work either...

13Horse keeps challenging me
..I am playing circling games with him and indeed he does like to decide where he would like to be leaded... although I always win the games it is sometimes quite difficult and although I am very confident and non-worried when working with him, when I think of the way he was behaving the day after I am almost scared to get back into the round pen with him.

1414 year old mare has attitude
...I just got a pair of horses (Paints) and when we first got them they were great as far as temperament but after we had ridden them the mare has decided that after two weeks of being ridden that she doesnt want to be ridden. They are the very first horses I have owned and also the first time i have ridden a horse. ......

15Is my gelding too affectionate?
...We shared a quiet moment and then he started to treat me like a mare, and tried herding me – he got excited, swung his head around and made movements towards me like he was playing with another horse. I wanted to have nothing to do with, I put my arms out and sent him sharply away....

18Behavior problems of a co-dependent mare
I recently purchased a 17 year old Quarter Pony to help my 2 girls learn to ride. When I looked at her I rode her in halter with lead rope and she listened well to commands and was very quiet and sweet tempered. Since I moved her to a new farm 1 month ago she is suddenly a different mare. She constantly hollers for all the other horses all the time...

19New horse connections and herd bound
...She seems like she may be herd bound. Yesterday we took the Bay (Bayou) out and Aspen acted all kinds of upset. Running around in circles looking very mad. If this is the problem what is a way to fix this where she wont mind being alone?...

20Should we sell her or not?
..Everything I have read, says that a beginer shouldn't have a green horse, however we can't just see that as a good enough reason to sell her. We like her and feel we want to keep her and start from scratch, with a lot of book help. I strongly feel that Aspen and I are starting to bond and that we will get along fine...

21horses' companionship needs and time requirements with owners
Two questions: 1) how much time must I spend with my horses for them to be able to bond with me? and 2) are you aware of any best grouping such that a pair of horses will best provide for one another's companionship needs?

22Sharing breath & heart
...Yesterday, I went to a local stable to spend some time with the horses and brush them, and three of the horses shared breath with me! 23Setting boundries with horses/crowding issues
..My only issue with him is his tendency to crowd. One minute he is leading as pretty as you please, the next he almost runs me over. My impression is that he got away with this in the past, and now when he wants to be done, he tries it out again. ...

24Herd Bound, I think?
... The problem comes in when we run into other horses on trail. He gets all excited, stops listen, and just wants to be with them. When he wants to take off he does and there is no stopping him. Also, If I go out on trail with other horses he is fine but if they get too far ahead of him he will take off to catch up and again becomes unstoppable.....

25More Herd Bound Behavior
... Now I have only one horse, but plan to buy an older horse that is already trained. My older mare "Cher" that has never been herd sour, or really even liked other horses, has began to pace, squeal if I touch her, kick her stall, and throw her ears back if I get near her......

26Trailering with feet in the manger
. He loaded fine & traveled fine to the ride then coming home he loaded & started pawing so I headed out not far down the drive he had both feet in the manger, I got him unloaded fine but he had a small cut on his leg....

29Horse Chases Me
.. He was quiet and gentle when we first brought him home, but over the past two weeks, has gotten so rambunctious that we are getting afraid of him. He is alone and seems to be pretty insecure (we hope to have a second gelding in a few days). He likes to nip at us, has started acting up on a lead rope...

30Of Horses and Humans, why ride and do they like us
...You say that we should be "loving parents" for the horses, and this makes them feels nice and secure, but why should we replace their natural parents or leaders in the herd? Why don't we let them live in peace in the wild, and love them from a distance? Do horses really need human beings and to what extent?...
